Milestones in building automation: Sustainable

Sustainability in terms of resource effi ciency is one of

IPC technology from Beckhoff also delivers great
benefi ts for renovation and expansion projects of exi-
sting buildings, because all our IPCs are backwards-
compatible with older models. This makes it easy
to replace older units, and existing programs can be
migrated to the newest models without having to be
modifi ed. Installed Bus Terminals and/or I/O systems
can stay in place.
The needs of building operators may frequently
change over the life of a building automation system.
For example, they might want to add the standardized
BACnet communication protocol to an existing sys-
tem. However, with many classic DDC (direct digital
control) systems, this is not possible. The open design
